전치사구는 아주 단순합니다.

구조: 전치사 + 명사구(목적어)

가장 단순한 예부터 볼까요?

• "in the house" → head: in (목적어: the house)
• "on the table" → head: on (목적어: the table)
• "at school" → head: at (목적어: school)
• "with my friend" → head: with (목적어: my friend)
• "from Korea" → head: from (목적어: Korea)

보이시죠? 전치사구의 핵심은 전치사입니다. 뒤에 오는 명사구는 전치사가 필요로 하는 목적어일 뿐이에요.

2) 왜 전치사가 head인가?

명사구에서는 명사가 의미의 중심이었고, 동사구에서는 동사가 의미의 중심이었죠.

하지만 전치사구는 다릅니다.

"in the house"를 생각해보세요.
• 이 구가 제공하는 정보는 "집 안에"라는 위치 관계입니다
• 이 관계를 나타내는 게 바로 "in"이죠
• "house"는 어떤 위치인지를 알려주는 참조점일 뿐

"with great care"도 마찬가지입니다.
• 이 구가 제공하는 정보는 "~와 함께" 또는 "~을 가지고"라는 수단/동반 관계
• 이 관계를 나타내는 게 "with"
• "care"는 무엇과 함께인지를 알려주는 대상일 뿐

결론: 관계를 나타내는 전치사가 전치사구의 핵심입니다.

3) 전치사구는 무엇을 하는가?

전치사구는 문장에서 주로 수식어 역할을 합니다.

① 명사 수식 (형용사 역할)
• "The book on the table is mine" → "on the table"이 "book"을 수식
• "어떤 책?" → "테이블 위에 있는 책"

• "The students in my class are smart" → "in my class"가 "students"를 수식
• "어떤 학생들?" → "내 반에 있는 학생들"

② 동사 수식 (부사 역할)
• "She lives in Seoul" → "in Seoul"이 "lives"를 수식
• "어디서 사는가?" → "서울에서"

• "He arrived at 9 o'clock" → "at 9 o'clock"이 "arrived"를 수식
• "언제 도착했는가?" → "9시에"

③ 형용사 수식
• "She is proud of her achievement" → "of her achievement"가 "proud"를 수식

④ 문장 전체 수식
• "In general, students prefer online classes" → "In general"이 문장 전체를 수식

4) 목적어가 긴 전치사구

전치사 뒤에 오는 명사구(목적어)가 길어질 수 있습니다.

"in the most prestigious international university"
• head: in
• 목적어(명사구): the most prestigious international university
• 목적어의 head: university

"with all the experienced researchers who worked on the project"
• head: with
• 목적어(명사구): all the experienced researchers who worked on the project
• 목적어의 head: researchers

"during the entire implementation phase of the comprehensive project"
• head: during
• 목적어(명사구): the entire implementation phase of the comprehensive project
• 목적어의 head: phase

중요한 포인트: 전치사구의 head는 전치사이고, 목적어 명사구의 head는 따로 있습니다.

5) 전치사구 체인 (러시아 인형 구조)

전치사구 안의 명사구에 또 전치사구가 붙을 수 있습니다. 이걸 전치사구 체인이라고 해요.

"The book on the table in my room"

구조 분석:
• 전체 명사구: The book on the table in my room (head: book)

• 첫 번째 전치사구: on the table in my room
→ head: on
→ 목적어: the table in my room (head: table)

• 두 번째 전치사구: in my room
→ head: in
→ 목적어: my room (head: room)

이렇게 전치사구가 층층이 쌓입니다. 각 전치사구마다 head(전치사)가 있고, 각 목적어 명사구마다 head(명사)가 있어요.

6) 복합 전치사

전치사가 여러 단어로 이루어진 경우도 있습니다. 이걸 복합 전치사라고 해요.

기본 전치사:
• in, on, at, with, from, to, for, by, of 등

복합 전치사:
• in accordance with the regulations
→ head: in accordance with (전체가 하나의 전치사)

• with regard to your question
→ head: with regard to

• in spite of the difficulties
→ head: in spite of

• on behalf of the committee
→ head: on behalf of

• as a result of the investigation
→ head: as a result of

• in addition to the requirements

• for the purpose of achieving results
→ head: for the purpose of

복합 전치사도 기능은 같습니다. 뒤에 명사구 목적어를 받아서 관계를 나타냅니다.

문장: "The comprehensive report submitted by the research team was reviewed by independent experts."

전치사구 분석:

① "by the research team"
• head: by
• 목적어: the research team (head: team)
• 역할: "submitted"를 수식 (누가 제출했는가?)

② "by independent experts"

• 역할: "was reviewed"를 수식 (누구에 의해 검토되었는가?)

전치사구 분석:

8) 초복잡 전치사구 체인 분석

완전 분석:

전체 명사구 head: destruction

전치사를 찾으세요 (in, on, at, with, for, by, of, to 등) → 그게 head
전치사 뒤에 오는 명사구를 찾으세요 → 그게 목적어
목적어 명사구의 head를 따로 찾으세요 → 명사구 분석 규칙 적용
