But this belief is itself a product of a bewitchment—of being captivated by the grammar of language rather than its function in life. A word’s meaning is not discovered by inward reflection or logical mapping, but by looking at how it is used within a form of life. In this regard, the philosopher’s task is not to advance new theories, but to bring words back from their metaphysical misuse to their everyday home.
