In so far as modern society ever promises us access to a community, it is one centered around the worship of professional success. We sense that we are brushing up against its gates when the first question we are asked at a party is ‘What do you do?’, our answer to which will determine whether we are warmly welcomed or conclusively abandoned by the peanuts. In these competitive, pseudo-communal gatherings, only a few of our attributes count as currency with which to buy the goodwill of strangers. What matters above all is what is on our business cards, and those who have opted to spend their lives looking after children, writing poetry or nurturing orchards will be left in no doubt that they have run contrary to the dominant mores of the powerful and deserve to be marginalized accordingly. Given this level of discrimination, it is no surprise that ________________________________. Focusing on work to the exclusion of almost everything else is a plausible enough strategy in a world which accepts workplace achievements as the main tokens with which we can secure not just the financial means to survive physically, but also the attention that we require to thrive psychologically.

해설 : 원문 자체의 문장 구성이 좋음에도 불구하고 빈칸 문장 앞과 뒤의 중심 내용이 명확하고, 답을 찾을 수 있는 근거가 상대적으로 분명히 제시되어 있어(Focusing ~ else 부분이 빈칸의 내용을 재진술한 격으로 서술되어 있다고 생각합니다.)
①, ②, ⑤번 사이에서 학생들이 고민할 것이라 생각하고 만들었고, ①의 경우 매력적인 오답(diligence 자체는 일에 힘을 쏟는 것 자체는 설명할 수 있지만 일 자체에만 집중하는 것을 온전히 설명할 수 없음)으로 설계했으며 ②의 경우 합리적으로 생각했을 때 일에만 집중하면 고립될 수 있지만 반드시 고립으로 이어진다고 볼 수 있는 근거가 없으므로 오답으로 설계했습니다. ⑤의 경우 원문 자체의 표현이 매우 세련되어 그대로 정답으로 넣었으며, discrimination이라는 단어의 분위기와도 정확하게 호응해 ‘those who have opted’가 vengeance라는 단어를 통해 Focusing ~ else 부분과 추상적인 듯 보이지만 명확히 인과관계로 이어져 있습니다. (차별 -> Career라는 수단을 이용한 복수 -> 여타의 모든 것을 배제(exclusion)할 만큼의 일에 대한 집착)

좋은 문제군요 1번보고 1번인줄 알았는데 5번까지 다 읽으니 5번 고름 성실하다라는게 지문에서 말하는것과는 늬앙스 차이가 있다고 생각했습니다

저는 2 5번 중에서 고민하다가 isolation으로 이어진다는 내용이 없어서 5번 골랐는데 1번이 매력적인 오답 선지가 될 수 있다는 것은 생각도 하지 못했네요!! 좋은 문제 감사드려요
