오늘은 수능특강 4강 후반부와 5강을 정리한 자료를 업로드해드리고자 합니다.

그리고 어제 발표된 올해 대수능 유형 확정안 발표로 인해, 평소 빈칸추론보다는 글의 흐름관련 유형에 어려움을 겪었던 수험생들이 많은 우려를 하시고 계신 것 같아서, 제가 평상시 오프라인 수업에서 <글의 흐름> 유형에 들어가기 전에 오리엔테이션 형식으로 주는 과제물을 여러분들에게도 소개하고자 합니다. 이 과제물은 제가 호주에서 TESOL 수료 당시 ICE-BREAKER로 하던 활동인데, 그 걸 수능의 현실에 맞게 변형해서 만든 자료입니다.


지금 제가 여러분에게 드리는 글은 <햄릿과 돈키호테>를 비교하고 있는 글입니다. 이 글은 각각의 문장 앞에 번호가 붙어있는 총 20개의 문장으로 구성되어 있으며 이 글의 해석 난이도는 중3~고1 정도의 수준밖에 되질 않습니다.



단, 이 글이 (1)번 문장으로 시작해서 (20)번 문장으로 끝나기는 하지만, 제가 중간에 있는 (2)번 ~ (19)번의 순서를 뒤죽박죽 섞어 놨습니다. 이 섞여진 (2) ~ (19)번 문장을 원래의 순서대로 재배치하는 것이 여러분이 하실 과제입니다. 그럼 이 과제물을 먼저 보시고서 이 과제물을 풀기 위한 팁을 읽어 주시길 바랍니다.


(1) The play Hamlet and the novel Don Quixote were written at almost the same time, in the late 1500's. Hamlet, one of Shakespeare's most famous characters, is a Danish prince.


(2) Cervantes wrote about a country nobleman, Don Quixote, who sets out to fight the world's injustices.


(3) Both men also share a belief in the supernatural world: Hamlet speaks with his dead father's ghost, and Don Quixote fights with imaginary giants and wizards.


(4) Further differences lie in their ambitions.


(5) With Sancho Panza, his faithful servant, he goes on a journey to try and solve society's many problems.


(6) He is not even certain that he wants to live, as we learn from his famous statement: "To be or not to be, that is the question."


(7) Hamlet is an unhappy man who cannot escape his thoughts.


(8) He returns home from his school abroad to find that his father is dead and his uncle has married his mother.


(9) However, the reader is never certain whether the characters are really crazy or just pretending.


(10) Finally, they both strongly want justice and suffer as tragic heroes.


(11) Don Quixote has read so many novels about medieval knights that he starts to believe himself to be one.


(12)Despite these many similarities, these characters also have important differences.


(13) Don Quixote, on the other hand, is a passionate man who acts too quickly without thinking.


(14) In the end, both men die of different reasons.


(15) When his father's ghost tells him that his uncle was the murderer, all Hamlet can think about is how to find out the truth and get justice for his father's death.


(16) He has particular trouble making decisions and taking action.


(17) While Don Quixote tries hard to make the world a better place, Hamlet wants only personal revenge.


(18) First, both men come from noble families, and both have a definite goal in life, and in the course of the stories both Hamlet and Don Quixote appear at times to be insane.


(19) Although the plots of these two works have little in common, their man characters do.


(20) Hamlet becomes a victim of his own inability to make wise decision; Don Quixote becomes a victim of his dying belief.




1. 이 지문은 크게 3개의 소주제로 이루어져있습니다. 글의 초반부의 주제는 <두 작품의 간략한 줄거리 소개>이며, 중반부는 <두 주인공의 공통점들>이고, 후반부는 <두 주인공의 차이점들>입니다.


2. 따라서 여러분은 처음부터 각 문장의 정확한 위치를 찾으려고 하기 보다는, 각 문장이 위에서 말씀드린 세 개의 소주제군 중에 어떤 그룹에 들어갈 지를 먼저 결정하시면 됩니다.


가령 (2)번 문장은 돈키호테의 줄거리 소개의 도입임이 명확함으로 첫 번째 그룹으로 일단 보내시는 겁니다. 또한 (3)번 문장은 “Both men also share ~” 를 통해 두 주인공의 공통점을 서술하고 있으므로 두 번째 그룹으로 보내시되, “also"라는 연결사의 성격상 나열의 일부가 되어야 함으로 두 번째 그룹의 첫 문장이 돼서는 안 된다는 정도의 생각은 하셔야 합니다.


이와 같이 각 문장이 세 개의 소그룹 중에 어디로 갈지를 결정하시면, 순서 및 문장넣기 유형에서 출제자가 부여하는 단서나 정답의 당위성으로 사용하는 정보들 - 가령 구조적 당위성, 지시어적 당위성, paraphrase의 당위성, 연결사의 당위성 등 -을 통해 세부적인 위치를 찾을 수 있도록 제가 지문 구성을 했으므로 재미삼아 해보신다면 글의 흐름 유형을 푸는 원리를 어느 정도 이해하시는데 도움이 될 것이라고 생각합니다.
